"Whenever you see a successful person, you only see the public glories, never the private sacrifices to reach them." (Vaibhav Shah)

One of the main reasons for depression in entrepreneurs and businesspersons today is the lack of support from family and friends when starting or running a business.

Brandon Gaille, small business and marketing advisor, reported that 80% of entrepreneurs talk about not having support from family and close friends in the first 2 years of starting a business and 51% of entrepreneurs are the first ones in their family to make the effort to start a business.

It does feel amazing to know you have the support of the people you love the most when running or starting a business, but for most, that isn’t the case.

Being one of those who don’t have family support, I do "over-stand" the feeling of having an event and none of your family members or friends are there to support. It hurts even more when your family or friends don’t believe you can run a successful business on your own.

Life humbled me greatly when someone who wasn’t related to me or haven’t even known me a day in my life, supported me way more than my friends and family did within a month.

How we choose to look at this support system, could play a vital role in helping us along the way. The same darkness that keeps you down, could make you shine. Just use the weakness as strength. At times we have to make sacrifices for our businesses, and losing family and friends are some of those sacrifices to be made. Life isn’t as hard as we perceive it to be. If you aren’t getting enough support from those around you, find new support systems. I did and I never regretted that decision.

Below I listed 3 ways in which I found my new support systems:

  1. Facebook groups: I found groups that are related to my field of work or even just groups to mix and mingle.

  1. Someone who helps entrepreneurs: The Timely Entrepreneur Resource and Research Centre plays a huge roll in my support system.

  1. Life Coach: I hired a Life Coach and she made me see the support I had already, which is my husband and a few others.

Utilizing who and what you have is important.

Some people will never see our visions or missions, but it isn’t for them to see.

“I refuse to accept other people’s ideas of happiness for me. As if there’s a one size fits all standard for happiness.”  – Kanye West

Don’t make yourself depressed over-thinking why the people you love most, does not support you. Everything happens for a pretty good reason.

People you met a minute ago will support you faster than people you knew your whole life.

People have their perceptions of us in their heads, some of them don’t know the versions of us that runs a business and they never will.

In the end,, you have the final say if this is going to make you or break you. All you need is your vision and mission to run your business.

Let me leave you with this quote from Maya Angelou - “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”

Your Coach.
