You have gifts to share with the world. You are not alone. You are not flawed. You are human.”

(Tim Ferriss)

As entrepreneurs, we endure more than the average person, there is the struggle of writing our own pay cheques, paying employees and much more.

There is also the need to prove to everyone that we are successful.

How many times in the last few weeks have you gotten suicidal thoughts or even attempted it?

How many times for this month have you said, “I am okay”, or “I’m fine?”

My guess is a whole lot.

As entrepreneurs and businesspersons, we are always wearing a fake smile to suppress what is really happening on the inside.

The truth is, we may be battling with no support system from our families, bills to be paid and an image to be maintained.

So we bottle up our feelings and depression, and we move on. Somewhere along the line, the depression becomes too much to deal with.

That depression then becomes suicide for the ones who aren’t strong enough; but for those of us who can hide behind a smile – well, we fake it until we are ready to move on to the next.

My hard-working entrepreneurs and businesspersons, please stop hiding behind the smile. Be a stepping stool for the others who aren’t here or those who aren’t even strong enough to smile.

Help me show them that it is okay to reach out to someone, whether it be a coach, therapist or a mentor. Let’s show them it’s okay to talk about what they are enduring. After all, we are only human, and we experience life in human ways. We are not all the same and we all experience life with different failures and accomplishments.

Journalist Tony Dokoupil, co-host of 'CBS This Morning', wrote, “Yet within this brighter tomorrow, we suffer unprecedented despair. In a time defined by ever more social progress and astounding innovations, we have never been more burdened by sadness or more consumed by self-harm.”

If talking to someone is too big of a step, try doing something - physical movement always helps me. 15-20 minutes of movement or just stretching.

Also, expressing gratitude goes a long way, something I do with myself and my clients, is writing 10 -15 things you’re thankful for every day. Keeping track of a few good things that happen within your day, goes a long way.

We can make the choice at any time to start dealing with our depressive mind; we just have to start.

Developing morning and night routines also help. Give yourself an hour after you have awaken before you check your phone or computer; drink a glass of water; interact with your loved ones.

Speak to yourself kindly; accept yourself for who YOU are. Yes, we have businesses to run, but who will run it if we spiral out of control?

Turn OFF you cell-phone notifications, I did that a long time ago. Choose days to check you emails, take your kids out, hang out with people who make you happy.

At night, get OFF your phone and computer perhaps an hour to a half hour before bed. Interact with your family, speak love to yourself.

Yes, you are a business owner, but you are also human and you are allowed to do human things, so do it. In the blink of an eye, everything could be taken away so start seeing your business in business hours, and separate personal hours.

Your happiness is in your hands. We all want successful businesses, but what is the point of a successful business if it can’t be enjoyed?

Live and let live.
