Not everyone is going to like, or want, or even purchase what you’re offering, and that’s quite okay.

Don’t take it personally. (Taken from a past blog we wrote).

There is absolutely no way, everyone is going to like what you do or what you have to say. Not everyone you bounce ideas off will agree and support your decisions. However, as an Entrepreneur, you must know that it is OK!

We recently had a new Entrepreneur who was afraid to show her progress. It was almost like she was ashamed of stepping out for fear of what people would say. We didn’t get it. We didn’t understand why she didn’t want to be celebrated, why she bothered to care what someone would say. After all, she was successful in getting started and she started making money before even launching the business! That certainly was something to celebrate.

As much as we would hate to believe it, there are the naysayers out there who hate on everything you do, and who, no matter what you do, will talk about you anyway. There are persons who have what is called ‘Tall poppy syndrome’ – mocking people who think highly of themselves, and those who relish in the misery of others – ‘Schadenfreude’.

These are all common examples of the “crab mentality”.

There will be times when you take big steps, in your life and in business, and you’re on the path of progression, then the crabs crawl up and try to pull you back down along with them. If you’re not familiar with the “crab mentality” theory, you can read a bit about it here:

Amazingly, sometimes, they’re even people on your team and who say they’re on your side.

As an Entrepreneur, we have some harsh truths to learn throughout our journey – be mindful, be alert, be ready, be open, be resilient, and keep in mind that just because others set limitations on their own lives, you don’t need to do the same, nor do you need to feel guilty about your growth and your successes. And if that’s what you’re noticing in your team, in your tribe, in your circle... trust yourself and don’t be afraid to walk away. Learn to draw your own conclusions and don’t rely on anyone else to validate what you believe. Remember that this Entrepreneurial journey is not meant for the faint-hearted.

Put on your armour of courage and press forward.

Oh, and you have to be careful too.

Are YOU somewhat of a crab?

Do you get a sense of joy or excitement when bad things happen to others?

Do you have problems celebrating the success of others?

Do you hate when others are happy?

Do you find yourself diminishing the importance of someone’s small successes?

Why should we want to prevent others from moving up? Take comfort in knowing that someone’s journey is not yours. You have your own path set out for you, just as they have their own.

So, one more thing before you look at the video below, please don’t be a crab!!!
